The Quilt Room

National Jelly Roll Day

Saturday, 16th September was National Jelly Roll Day and we celebrated with our Open Day.  We had a brilliant day with so many lovely customers visiting and joining in with all the fun.

We kick started the day with two free classes.  Margaret showed us how to use the Creative Grids Double-Strip Kaleidoscope ruler and how amazing the design can look when using a jelly roll in our Two to Tango quilt. Then in Ileana’s class, she demonstrated the brilliant Creative Grids Multi-Size Flying Geese & 45/90 ruler – there were lots of jelly roll quilts made using this ruler and our free pattern giveaway for this class was for our Geometric breeze which you can download here.

After our two free classes there was time to walk around and see all our quilts from our latest book Jelly Roll Quilts in a Weekend which all had little clues attached for our Jelly Roll Quiz. There was lots of tea and cake plus Chris had both our longarm machines in action for everyone to see.

Our shop was a hive of activity with a huge selection of brand spanking new Moda precuts which are so new that even the bolts haven’t yet been released.  Dee and Sue were our shop girls and did a fantastic job of making our shop look absolutely dazzling.

In the afternoon Margaret hosted our Make a Jelly Roll Quilt. Quilters with all skill levels were invited to make a block which eventually will become a quilt for charity. We were so impressed how eager and enthusiastic everyone was and it truly was a great afternoon. We had several ladies who had never made anything before and they were thrilled with the results.  We are just in the process of finishing the quilt and will post pictures soon.

What was amazing about the day was how everyone was there for the simple reason – to have fun doing something that you love. Aren’t we lucky to be part of such a lovely quilting community!

So a big thank you to everyone who came and took part and of course to all our wonderful Quilt Room staff who all bent over backwards making sure the day was a success.  If you were unable to come or perhaps are thinking about visiting us – here is a little video of behind the scenes.

Oh and Mary Foster was the lady who won one of our quizzes and received this great bundle of goodies!

Little Miss Muffet and all her tuffets!

If you don’t want to become addicted to the latest craze, then look away now!

Whilst in Houston at Quilt Market last year, our next door stand neighbours were the delightful husband and wife team of Quilter’s Cocoon, California who deal in all things tuffet – well they completely inspired us and so our tuffet madness quickly transcended to The Quilt Room.

Here are a couple of pictures from our recent Make a Tuffet courses – these were a day and a half long and each lovely lady managed to complete their tuffet.  Don’t they look wonderful!

Launch of New Ways with Jelly Rolls

It is always an exciting time waiting for the first copy of a new book to be delivered. Well we have had our first copy delivered to us – yes we only have one copy so Nicky and I have to share it for the moment. We are really pleased with it and we hope you are going to like it. The publishers are trying hard to get it to us in time for the Festival of Quilts but it is still touch and go and it might just not make it.

However, we are celebrating our 33rd birthday on 30th August with an Open Day – check the web site for details – and we will have all the quilts from the book on display then. That is going to be our official Launch Day for New Ways with Jelly Rolls and we really hope you can pop in to help us celebrate and pick up your signed copy of the book. There will be demonstrations throughout the day and lots of bargains in the shop. The Gammill Studio is throwing open its doors if you want to come along and see the longarm quilting machines in action. It is going to be a fun day with tea and birthday cake to keep us all going! Do come and join in the fun.

Lottie Da Jelly Baby

Pictured are the makings of our new quilt. We are using two Lottie Da by Heather Bailey jelly babies and I think there is going to be a lot of pressing involved in this quilt – but we’re quite pleased how the first few blocks are looking.  We’ll post a picture once it’s all finished.
